You Can Solve Any Problem! (Even If You Aren’t an Expert)

“Something is wrong here. What can be done?” asked Tapiwa Chiwewe, a computer engineer. He was driving one day in Johannesburg and asked himself this question looking at the sky.

Johannesburg is a city famous for its skyline. But, lately, it wasn’t even visible. It’s covered by a dull haze. At that moment, Chiwewe felt the urge to do something to solve the problem, but didn’t know what. What did he know about air-quality management or environmental science? He felt frustrated, he was just a citizen after all!

But sometimes, even if you aren’t an expert, your outside expertise may hold the key to help solve the problem. Unconventional thinking might be the answer.

Chiwewe decided then to start working together with his colleagues and students. He collaborated with the scientific community and politicians to solve this problem. Then, he started having ideas.

You Can Solve Any Problem

Your outside expertise may hold the key to solving the problem. Unconventional thinking might be the answer.

Let’s do it!

And what the team created was an online air-quality management platform. With the data of a decade from the city, the solution uncovers the spatial-temporal trends in pollution, and thanks to Machine Learning techniques they were able to predict future levels of different pollutants in advance, and future atmosphere conditions. Thus, citizens can make better decisions about their daily movements, and about where to settle with their families, industries settlement, etc…

Innovate, change, and thanks to collaboration, improve your world!

Tapiwa’s tips to change the world

Thanks to this experience, Tapiwa was, once again, staring at Johannesburg skyline. And gazing at the horizon, he saw the whole map:

When embarking on a challenging endeavor…

  1. It’s important to focus on the possibility of success
  2. Consider the consequences of not acting
  3. Don’t get distracted by resistance and opposition
  4. When you notice there is a natural curiosity being piqued, about something you care about and you have some crazy ideas… ask yourself: Why not? Why not just go ahead and tackle the problem, giving your best?

Don’t let any unconventional idea to get lost. Don’t miss the chance to, just as Chiwewe did, innovate, change, and thanks to collaboration, improve your world. Nextinit is the secret, try it now for free!!
